Ready to take on increasingly strict European emissions standards, Audi has unveiled a pair of revised 3.0-litre diesel V6 engines.

Revealed at the Vienna Auto Symposium in Austria earlier today, the new engines benefit from components revised in the bid to reduce friction. To name just a few of the extensive changes, the new diesel V6 benefits from redesigned cylinder heads, new piston rings and a revised turbocharger.

Not only do the revisions translate to a 13 per cent improvement in fuel economy in certain models, but horsepower and torque figures are also up. Audi says the engine offers up to 272 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft. of torque, again in certain models.

The changes come just one year following the introduction of Audi’s current crop of diesel V6 engines in North America. Available in the A6, A7, A8 and Q5 models, the outgoing diesel V6 pumps out 240 horsepower and 428 lb.-ft. of torque.
