At best, the previous-generation Chrysler 200 was a forgettable midsize sedan. The redesigned 2015 model? Not so much, and true to the automaker’s expectations, consumers seem to reflect that.
After orders initially opened up last week, Chrysler said the 200 amassed 10,000 orders placed in the first day, followed by another 7,000 a day later. This means the 200′s assembly plant in Sterling Heights, Mich., will be pumping out cars at full capacity through the middle of July. Al Gardner, Chrysler’s president and CEO, says the automaker is “thrilled” at the enthusiasm shown by customers and dealers over the new 200.
The Chrysler 200 can be had in four flavours: the base LX, the mid-range Limited and S models and the range-topping 200C. Buyers can choose between Chrysler’s Tigershark inline four-cylinder engine and the 295-horsepower 3.6-litre Pentastar V6. Front-wheel-drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission is standard across the range, but all-wheel-drive is optional on V6 models.
The 200 will hit Canadian dealers this summer starting at $22,495.
