Five assembly plants across Michigan, Ohio and Indiana are on the receiving end of a new investment plan announced today by GM.

The investment, ringing in at $1.3 billion, will increase for production support across GM’s Detroit, Flint and Romulus, Mich., Toledo, Ohio and Bedford, Ind., for a handful of initiatives. Most notably, almost $500 million of the investment plan will fund the development of GM’s upcoming 10-speed automatic transmission, with the remaining going to production efforts for GM’s six-speed automatic transmission and a new V6 engine, among other things.

The less nitty-gritty details the plan include enhanced quality in GM’s cars and streamlined logistics, but that’s now what you want to know. What you do want to know is jobs won’t be going anywhere with the new investment plan. In fact, GM says the new plan could create up to 1,000 new jobs.

Currently, it’s unclear as to which models the 10-speed automatic will make an appearance in. How about a Chevrolet Colorado diesel with a 10-speed automatic transmission?
