July 12, is B.C.’s first official Collector Car Appreciation Day. Hear ye, hear ye and so on; heretofore and whatnot.
The forecast is for near-30- degree weather, with a smattering of clouds amid the sunshine — a proper West Coast summer’s day, with a cool, bright morning and a long, languid evening. It’s the perfect weather for cruising a few of our highways, if only you can manage to get out there before the RVs do.
For those in town, there are two ways to get a belt of coffee and an eyeful of curvaceous sheet metal early in the morning. First, this being the second week of the month, Porsche specialist Weissach is holding its once-monthly Coffee and Cars event down at Spanish Banks, in the last parking lot. A Eurocentric affair, you’re bound to see plenty of high-powered stuff here, as well as more than a few collector-plated rarities. It runs from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Bask in the reflected glory of eclectic, classic autos this Saturday, at the Spanish Banks or at the Park and Tillford mall.

On the North Shore, the expedition-running Classic Car Adventures will be hosting its own Cars and Coffee at the Park and Tilford mall parking lot, also from 8-10 a.m. A more curious, varied, and classic mix is expected here, with everything from two-stroke Saabs to Mini-Mokes.
“If you’re a car nut like us, we’re not going to turn you away,” is the official word from CCA co-founder Dave Hord, so you don’t need a pristine garage queen to attend. On the contrary, most of the cars you’ll see in this group are machines that actually get driven, and driven long distance.
It’s going to be a beauty day, eh, so crank over old Bessie and putter on out for a cup of joe and a chin wag about carburetors. Or, if the family machine is a Prius V, whirr on down anyways and check out the summer’s rides. Before you know it, the rains will be back, so don’t miss your opportunity.
