Hot on the heels of their complete overhauls earlier this year, GM is planning to add a handful of new technologies to its full-sized SUVs.
Enthusiast website GM Inside News says a “2015.5 update” is in the cards, which will see an eight-speed automatic transmission added to Cadillac Escalade and GMC Yukon Denali models powered by the 6.2-litre V8, while 5.3L V8 models will continue with the six-speed automatic. The move follows the half-ton Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups, which will also see an eight-speed automatic added to 6.2L V8 models.
In addition, we could also see the addition of a 360-degree camera. Utilizing a pair of cameras mounted on the side and another one mounted on the grille, the system works in-tandem with the back-up camera to provide a full-circle view of the SUV’s surroundings. This system is expected to appear on the range-topping Escalade Platinum, along with the Yukon down the road.
Speaking of the Escalade, Automotive News reports a high-performance Escalade Vsport is in the cards. Although GM hasn’t officially dished any details, Cadillac model line brand manager David Schiavone says either a turbodiesel V6 or a twin-turbocharged gasoline V6 could appear under the hood.
