It’s no question crossovers are wildly popular segment, which is likely why Mazda is considering adding another one to its lineup.

According to LeftLane News, the Japanese automaker is reportedly working on a new subcompact crossover, known as the CX-3. Although Mazda has yet to confirm the news, Martin Benders, head of the company’s Australian division, says a subcompact crossover “is not that far away.

The CX-3 will slot below the CX-5 and will be styled with the company’s “Soul of Motion” design language. It will be offered in both front- and all-wheel-drive flavours, and will compete with the likes of the Nissan Juke, Jeep Renegade and Honda’s upcoming Fit-based crossover, the HR-V.

If all goes to plan, we’ll likely see the Mazda CX-3 hit dealers at some point in 2016.
