Lexus has officially confirmed it is working on a successor to the ferocious LFA supercar.

Following a series of rumours floating around ever since the original LFA’s production run ceased in 2012, Mark Templin, Lexus’ executive vice president, told Automotive News the LFA successor already has the approval of company president Akio Toyoda.

“Akio believes that every generation deserves to have a car like an LFA,” he said. “So we’re building an LFA for the generation we have today. At some point, there may be another special car for another generation.”

The timing of this news is hard to dismiss. Not only are BMW and Toyota working on a new sports car, rumours are quickly spreading on the Lexus front over the possibility of a production-ready version of the LF-LC supercar.

The Lexus LFA was introduced in 2010 was and powered by a 552-horsepower V10 engine. With a price tag of $375,000, LFA production concluded in 2012 after 500 examples were built.
