File this under things we would really like to see: An all-wheel-drive Mazdaspeed3 and a Miata Coupe, both cars that Automotive News reports could be on their way.

Mazda is currently working on big updates to its lineup, and Automotive News says it has some inside scoop on what the Japanese automaker is planning.

The new Mazdaspeed3 is expected to come out for the 2017 model year, and since the model relaunch of the regular Mazda3 for the 2014 model year, we’ve been dying to find out what an improved Speed3 would drive like. The previous-generation Speed3 acted like a wild animal, and its front-wheel-drive platform couldn’t handle the gobs of torque its engine was producing, so an all-wheel-drive model would tame it and make the hatch an all-out Subaru WRX fighter.

The other hopeful news is that a coupe variant of the MX-5 Miata might be being considered. A Miata Coupe would be a hearty competitor to the generally amazing Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S twins, which currently own the rear-wheel-drive sports car under $30,000 market. A completely redesigned soft-top MX-5 roadster will be unveiled next month and Automotive News says a hardtop model with a fastback look will be introduced a year after the soft-top goes on sale.
