Volkswagen, which just launched the seventh-generation model of its popular Golf this year, is already thinking of a whole eighth-generation overhaul for 2017, reports say.
A German magazine via Automotive News said that the new Golf will have a totally different look than the seventh-generation model and will include a suite of new safety technology. Sources also say the Golf will get a head-up display, automatic parking, pedestrian recognition, and automatic braking.
The new Golf will still be built on the MQB platform, but the report says that it will be 50 kg lighter than the current model and will also be lower and wider.
VW is also working on new powertrains and the report said the German automaker is considering different ways to use the small three-cylinder it uses to power its subcompact Polo in overseas markets.
