The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has initiated an investigation into certain Ford Fiesta models with defective door latches.
The investigation covers 205,000 examples of the Fiesta between 2011 and 2013. According to the NHTSA, it has received 61 complaints over doors that couldn’t catch, while 12 owners said the door actually opened when the car was still in motion. One complaint claims the door bounced back and injured an occupant when they attempted to close it.
The NHTSA will continue the investigation and will determine if a recall is necessary. In the meantime, Ford says any owners who have experienced issues with their door latches should contact their dealership.
