GM has dished details over what fuel economy we can expect from the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size pickups.

Equipped with the base 2.5-litre four-cylinder, six-speed automatic transmission and two-wheel-drive, the Colorado and Canyon return 20 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway, or 22 MPG combined. Opting for four-wheel-drive knocks fuel economy down slightly to 19 MPG city and 26 highway, or a 21 combined. The six-speed manual, available only with the base 2.5L engine and in two-wheel-drive configuration, puts fuel economy at 19 MPG city, 26 highway and 22 combined.

Equipped with the range-topping 3.6-litre V6, the Colorado and Canyon return 18 MPG city, 26 highway and 21 combined in two-wheel-drive form. As for payload, GM rates the four-cylinder Colorado and Canyon at 1,460 pounds and 1,490 pounds, respectively. The V6-equipped Colorado can carry 1,590 pounds while the Canyon tops out at 1,620.

Expect the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon to post significant fuel economy gains when the 2.8-litre Duramax turbodiesel engine is introduced for the 2016 model year.
