Jaguar has released official specs for its latest diesel engines part of the new ‘Ingenium’ family.

From the outset, Jaguar designed the Ingenium engines to be as light, efficient and smooth as possible. Complete with all-aluminum construction, Jaguar says they can deliver up to 75 miles per gallon in the new XE, based on the European test cycle.

The base 2.0-litre turbodiesel is rated at 163 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque, while Jaguar will also offer a second version tuned to 180 horsepower and an impressive 317 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Ingenium diesel engines will feature variable exhaust timing and a low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation system, which reduces temperatures in the combustion chamber by inhibiting NOx particle formation. The engines also feature what Jaguar calls Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), aimed at cutting NOx emissions, making them among the cleanest diesels in the sport sedan segment.

In addition to the 2.0-litre turbodiesels, the XE will be available with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine, as well as a 3.0-litre, 340-horsepower supercharged V, similar to the one found in the F-Type.

Jaguar will announce the rest of the XE’s details, including what we can expect out of the gasoline 2.0L turbo-four, at next week’s Paris Motor Show.
