Porsche has kept the 911 Targa a well-kept secret ahead of its Detroit auto show debut, but we now have our first leaked image of what could be it.
Rather than a glass roof that slides under the rear window, the latest 911 Targa throws back to the original model by using soft top. It was rumoured to be removable, but a leaked dealer presentation from Jalopnik says it will see a “fully automatic roof system to satisfy customer demands for comfort.”

In addition to the roof design, the solid B-pillar and the rear glass that wraps around each side also echo the original 911 Targa models. Porsche hasn’t detailed powertrains just yet, but barring any surprises (911 Targa Turbo S, anyone?) expect Porsche to stick with the standard 911′s 3.4- and 3.6-litre flat-six engines, good for 350 and 400 horsepower, respectively.
The 911 Targa will be joined by the Macan and the Cayenne Platinum Edition when the North American International Auto Show opens its doors next week. A tip of the hat to AutoGuide for the leak.
