The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit is North America’s largest auto show. Back in the Detroit heyday, the show used to be a spectacular event with huge global reveals and movie-worthy stunts.
After the economic crash in 2008/2009, the Detroit auto show was scaled back and many automakers didn’t even attend. The show was a sordid affair and was a reflection of the strength of American automakers. There were no mind-blowing concepts, no daring stunts and the whole mood of the show was subdued.

If this year’s show is any indication of things to come, automakers are on a rebound and it seems like their spirit has been re-awakened. This year’s show was packed with beautiful concepts and dramatic unveilings — and Day One isn’t even over yet. Although the insane and daring Toyota FT-1 Concept stunned everyone and essentially won the auto show for the coolest thing to ever happen (I mean, come on, look at it), there were a huge number other noteworthy cars on display.
