Chevrolet will expand its electric lineup with a production-version Bolt set to hit dealers next year.
Billed as a fully-electric car priced at $30,000 in the U.S., Reuters reports the Bolt at a GM plant just north of Detroit. The plant, which also builds the Buick Verano and Chevrolet Sonic, is expected to put out anywhere between 25,000 to 30,00 copies of the Bolt annually.
Sources familiar with putting the Bolt into production say it will start at US$35,000, but government incentives should bring it down to the $30,000 mark. Complete with an expected range of about 200 miles, the Bolt will arrive at the same time as the Tesla Model 3 — and at a similar price point.
The Bolt is also said to be underpinned by GM’s Gamma compact car platform, so it will likely serve as the basis for the upcoming Chevrolet Sonic, also due in 2016.
