Infiniti has given us our first full look at the new QX30 Concept.
Billed as a crossover variant of the Q30 Concept we saw at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, Infiniti says both concepts hint “at a future premium compact vehicle and gives a strong indication” of what we can expect from the automaker if it decides to green-light the Q30 and QX30 for production.
Infiniti is still tight-lipped on powertrain details and specs, but it did say the QX30 is about 30 millimetres taller than the Q30 and rides on a set of 21-inch wheels. If the concepts do indeed make it into production, rumours suggest they will be built on Mercedes’ modular front-wheel-drive architecture — the same platform that underpins models like the B-, CLA- and GLA-Class.
Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti’s head of design, says the QX30 was penned with “stylish protection” in mind, complete with the requisite rugged crossover design cues mixed in with Infiniti’s recent swoopy design characteristics.
“The QX30 Concept design conveys a sophisticatedly gritty sense of strength and durability, but tough doesn’t mean rough,” Albaisa said. “We’ve retained a sense of artistry throughout, even in the most functional of parts.”
The Infiniti QX30 Concept will make its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show, which kicks off on March 3.
