UPDATE: The “fracas” is reportedly centred around an alleged punch aimed at one of the show’s producers. More below …
Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended from Top Gear by the BBC.
The BBC says the suspension was doled out “following a fracas” with one of the show’s producers. According to The Telegraph, Clarkson allegedly aimed a punch at one of the show’s producers last week.
The incident was reported yesterday, but BBC’s action — which is “pending further investigation” — was taken today.
“No one else has been suspended,” the BBC said. “Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday.”
Along with this Sunday’s episode, The Telegraph reports two additional episodes in the season have been pulled. The show is co-hosted by Richard Hammond and James May.
Clarkson is no stranger to controversy. The most recent of which concerned a license plate on a Porsche 928 used in the show’s most recent special, where the team crossed through South America.
The 928’s license plate read H982 FKL, which some people interpreted as a dig to a conflict Argentina faced against Britain in 1982 over the Falklands.
