Many of us can only dream about being able to buy the gorgeous cars up for grabs at RM Auctions, but doing so never hurt anybody.
Taking place on Amelia Island just off the coast of Florida, this weekend’s RM Auctions event promises to be amazing. There’s the usual mix of cutesy vintage micro cars and priceless roadsters, making it impossible to choose a car to take home. Well, almost impossible.
As much as I’d love a Lamborghini Miura SV or an Aston Martin DB6, my dream car up for grabs this weekend is a wine red 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona, simply because of the story behind it.

You see, the Daytona spent most of its life under a car cover in a downtown Toronto parking garage. The Daytona’s original owner, Patrick Sinn, bought the car in 1971 and spent that summer driving across Europe with it before bringing it back to Canada.

Then in 1989, Sinn’s father passed away, forcing him to put the Daytona on blocks and under a cover in his condo’s garage. He thought he’d spend a few months in Hong Kong ironing out the family estate, but those months turned into years. Six of them, to be exact.

Since that moment, the gorgeous Daytona sat in its same spot. Under a car cover and on blocks. Waiting with a ‘Disco Rock’ tape in the radio. Day in, day out for 25 years until last November, when Sinn decided to sell it so that another enthusiast can restore and enjoy it. There are other classics set to cross the auction block that are worth well into the millions, but this Ferrari’s got character.
