Mark your calendars for May 16 because that’s when we’ll see the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro make its official debut.
Following up on the two teasers we’ve seen so far – a semi-official silhouette and a brief 10-second appearance in a video last week – GM is building up the anticipation with some more details. The first is the logo we can expect on the 2016 Camaro. It’s a modern take on the red, white and blue tri-bar logo seen on many previous iterations of the muscle car, and it’s safe to say we’ll see it appear all over the new model.
Along with the logo, GM has also given us a brief teaser of the car’s raw sound in an audio clip. The more meaty details are still under wraps, but rumour has it the 2016 Camaro will be based on GM’s Alpha platform – the same one underpinning the Cadillac ATS and CTS. This not only opens up the possibility of less weight and smaller dimensions compared to the current Camaro, but also the use of the ATS’ 2.0-litre turbo-four aimed at improving the Camaro’s fuel economy and competing with the Mustang EcoBoost.
The 2016 Camaro will be revealed on May 16 at the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Island Grand Prix event. And leading up to the event, GM will be dropping 12 more teasers with the next two set for March 19.
