BMW exec says Mini Superleggera isn’t happening … yet

Hot on the heels of yesterday’s Mini Superlegerra news, a BMW executive says the sleek roadster is still unconfirmed for production.

Speaking with Automotive News, BMW’s Peter Schwarzenbauer says the Superleggera would be a “great addition to the Mini range” but “cannot confirm that it has been approved yet.”

Unveiled last year at the Concorso d’Eleganza in Lake Como, Italy, the Superleggera was almost an instant hit for its design. It was penned in collaboration with Italian design firm Touring Superleggera.

Fortunately, there is still hope. Schwarzenbrauer himself is a fan of the Superleggera and is “still pushing” to have it approved for production.

As for the pint-sized Mini Minor rumoured to be developed in partnership with Toyota, Schwarzenbrauer says he doesn’t “see a smaller car than the current one.”
