Nissan could offer a hybrid version of the Rogue CUV in North America.

Speaking to Automotive News, Nissan engineer Nobusuke Toukura says there’s a chance the Japanese automaker could offer the electrified Rogue, also known as the X-Trail outside of North America.

Car and Driver says Nissan’s North American arm didn’t confirm the news outright, but did hint that it wishes to expand its hybrid lineup beyond the Pathfinder. The move would certainly make sense considering the Rogue is one of Nissan’s hottest sellers and the fact that Toyota recently introduced a hybrid RAV4 at the New York Auto Show.

The Nissan X-Trail Hybrid is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, rated at 145 horsepower. It’s paired to a 40-horsepower electric motor, which helps the CUV achieve 47 miles per gallon based on Japan’s fuel economy testing cycle.
