Robert De Niro has confirmed he will portray Enzo Ferrari in an upcoming movie due out next year.
De Niro, 71, will portray Ferrari through most of his life – from 1947 when Ferrari founded the legendary company to his last days in 1988.
The movie will be produced in Italy by former photographer Gianni Bozzacchi, owner of Triworld Cinema, in collaboration with De Niro’s own company, Tribeca Film. A director hasn’t been confirmed just yet, but rumour has it Clint Eastwood is “very interested” in the role.
In addition to De Niro’s film, director Michael Mann is reportedly planning a film of his own about Enzo Ferrari, based on a 1991 book by Brock Yates titled Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races. Production of that movie is set to begin in 2016.
