One of the hottest Fords in the pipeline will be made in very limited numbers for the 2015 model year.

We’re not talking about the Ford GT – that’s already rumoured to enter production next year, capped at 250 examples to maintain exclusivity. Instead, Ford announced today a short production run of Shelby Mustang GT350 models for this year.

Although it debuted as a 2016 model, Ford says it will build 100 copies of the GT350 to honour the 50th anniversary of the original GT350. Production will be split into two tiers – 50 examples will be equipped with the Technology package, which comes with goodies such as Ford’s new Sync 3 infotainment system, GPS navigation, power-adjustable leather seats and dual-zone climate control.

The remaining half of the 2015 GT350 production run will be equipped with the Track Pack, adding beefed-up engine, transmission and differential coolers, as well as heavy-duty springs up front, a strut tower brace and adjustable drive modes.

Along with the standard 2015 GT350, Ford will build 37 copies of the Mustang GT350R – another homage to Carrol Shelby as a throwback to the exact number of FIA-spec GT350 Mustangs he built back in 1965. Package details haven’t been announced for the 2015 GT350R run, but you can bet on this one being much more exclusive than the 2015 GT350.

Ford is still tight-lipped on exact performance specs, but we can expect “at least” 500 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque from its flat-pane 5.2-litre V8.
