Need proof the Koenigsegg One:1 borders on insanity? Well, it just set a new speed record.

While the mighty Bugatti Veyron is still the fastest car in the world, the One:1 took exactly 17.95 seconds to rocket from a standstill to 300 km/h and back to a stop. That’s 3.24 seconds quicker than the previous record holder, the Koenigsegg Agera R.

The previous 0-300-0 record holder was the Koenigsegg Agera R, which is some 3.24 seconds slower than the One:1.

Handout, Koenigsegg

With factory test driver Robert Serwanski behind the wheel the One:1 reached 300 km/h in 11.922 seconds and another 6.032 to come to a complete stop on a dry airstrip. Not only that, the One:1 holds an unofficial record as the fastest production car around Japan’s Suzuka Circuit and Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps race track.

As a refresher, the One:1 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.0-litre V8, producing 1,340 horsepower and 740 lb.-ft. of torque. With plenty of carbon fibre (and even titanium) used under the skin, the One:1’s curb weight of 1,340 kilograms matches the horsepower figure, hence the name and absurd performance.
