According to Evo, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles chief operating officer Alfredo Altavilla says there will be a high-performance Abarth version of the upcoming Mazda Miata-based Fiat 124 Spider.
Power will likely come from a detuned version of the 1.75-litre turbo-four found in the Alfa Romeo 4C. That engine makes 237 horsepower in the 4C, but it would probably be detuned to 200 horsepower in the 124 Spider Abarth.
Fiat plans to make two versions of the 124 Spider. One will be a ‘comfortable’ model and the other will be a more performance oriented Abarth version. Assuming weight stays roughly the same between the Fiat and Mazda versions, the Abarth would have a strong power-to-weight ration and could achieve zero-to-100 km/h times in the five-second range.
