BMW and Toyota are partnering to create a high-end sports car that, in some ways, will be a successor to the vaunted Toyota Supra.
According to a report from Motoring, the BMW and Toyota versions will have entirely different bodies. Unlike the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S, which share a common body design, the upcoming BMW/Toyota sports cars will have significantly different styling.
This is possible through the use of a “frame-based format,” as opposed to a typical monocoque design. Through the partnership, BMW will be responsible for designing an agile chassis and a strong inline-six cylinder powerplant while Toyota’s responsibilities will include the creation of a hybrid powertrain for the vehicle. We know which job sounds more fun.
The final styling of the cars is still far away from being revealed, but we can expect the Toyota version to take cues from the FT-1 concept car.
