We recently reported that “insane mode” had given way to an even more loony “ludicrous mode” in Tesla’s flagship Model S sedan. Now, according to Auto Express, the upcoming Tesla Model X is poised to be the quickest SUV on the planet.
The 90kWh battery pack that makes “ludicrous mode” possible in the Model S could launch the Model X from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds, according to Tesla CEO Elon Musk at a recent press conference. For reference, a premium-fuel-slurping Porsche Cayenne Turbo S does the 0-100 km/h run in a languid 4.1 seconds.
Musk says that the more powerful battery pack is key to the performance of the Model X, as its higher centre of gravity will affect its range and energy consumption.
