Expected to be revealed in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the 2016 Porsche 911 will see a number of modest visual changes and, reportedly, two new turbo engines for the Carrera and Carrera S models.
Auto Bild‘s Jürgen Zöllter got a first look at the car during testing in South Africa recently. The most notable visual changes are new front and rear fascias, restyled headlights, and exhausts ports that are neither centre-mounted nor conventional but something in between.

German media also reports the new 911 will drop the naturally-aspirated 3.4-litre in the Carrera and the 3.8-litre flat six in the Carrera S in favour of a 2.7L twin-turbo flat six delivering 370 horsepower in the Carrera, and a 3.0L twin turbo flat six producing 420 hp in the C2S, with torque rising to 369 lb.-ft. Fuel economy is also expected to be improved.
Inside, the 2016 Porsche 911 adopts a steering wheel much like the GT3 RS and 918 Spyder, with some controls moving to the wheel. A much larger central touchscreen is also evident. And a manual transmission appears to be an option, too, reflecting what Porsche GT chief Andreas Preuninger told Driving in May: “If our customers want a manual, why would we not give them what they want.”
We’ll have more details as further official announcements are made.
