Hyundai is putting the finishing touches on the next-generation Elantra.
The Korean automaker hinted at the subcompact car’s new look in a new teaser image. There’s a new front grille and redesigned headlights, and the overall design is inspired by the Genesis and Sonata – though on the curvier side. Look a little closer and there are even some cues from the Vision G concept.
Peter Schreyer, Hyundai’s chief designer, says the Elantra is an indication of Hyundai’s “move from traditional to modern styling” through enhanced comfort, fashion and a “sporty feel.”
“The all-new Elantra captures the car’s unique design characteristics that really place this model in a class of it’s own,” Schreyer said. “The subtle and innovative appearance and enhancements reflect Hyundai’s vision for design.”
Powertrain details are still thin, but the current Elantra’s 1.8-litre and 2.0L four-cylinder engines could be carried over and joined by the Tucson’s 1.6-litre turbo-four and dual-clutch automatic transmission. Expect a healthy bump in fuel economy, too.
