Fast SUVs might be a little redundant, but if you’re a fan of this niche, Jeep has two things just for you.
According to a Jeep owner forum via MotorAuthority, a Jeep Renegade Trackhawk is on the way. Naturally, Fiat-Chrysler is mum on the details, but the move certainly makes sense – especially considering Fiat is reportedly planning an Abarth version of the 500X, the Renegade’s Italian cousin.
Expect power to come from a twin-turbocharged variant of the Jeep Renegade‘s 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine, pumping at least 300 horsepower to all four wheels, although transmission options are still unclear.
Along with the Renegade Trackhawk, a high-performance Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has also been green-lit. Think of it as a Grand Cherokee Hellcat, possibly powered by the same 707-horsepower V8 as the Charger and Challenger Hellcat. If this comes into fruition, expect a top speed over 200 miles per hour and a zero-to-100 km/h sprint under three seconds. Yes, it’s going to be nuts.
Fiat-Chrysler didn’t comment on the matter, but expect the Renegade Trackhawk to hit dealers sometime in 2017 and a limited run of Grand Cherokee Trackhawks for 2018.
