Leaked: Could this be the 2015 Ford Mustang?

When you’re dealing with something as iconic and influential as the Ford Mustang, a leak is almost inevitable. That proved to be just the case when a keen member of Mustang forum SVT Performance (hat tip to Jalopnik and Autoblog) posted up images of the latest issue of Autoweek.

Take a look at our gallery dedicated to five decades of the original Pony Car

Set to debut this Thursday across the globe, what seems to be the sixth-generation Mustang found itself in the magazine, showing the renders we’ve seen so far to be quite accurate. Truth be told, we’re a little disappointed with the 2015 Mustang because it looks nothing like the one from Back to the Future II. Just kidding, we like it a lot. Ford promised updated styling and it delivered.

It’s still unmistakably a Mustang, but it’s sleeker than the outgoing model. Up front, the Mustang remains true to the renders and spy shots we’ve seen so far, wearing a grille and a pair of headlights inspired by the Fusion mixed in with some aggressive cues. Down the side, the 2015 Mustang seems to straddle the line between design evolution and complete overhaul. The rear keeps the three-bar tail lights, but are completely reshaped along with the rest of the scar’s styling.

The 2015 Mustang seems to retrain the three-bar tail lights. We only hope the turn signals continue to flash sequentially.

What lies under the hood remains to be seen, but the loudest of the scuttlebutt seems to be a turbocharged, 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine finding its way into the Mustang, in addition to a V6 and a V8 engine. Down the road, the Mustang may even see a turbocharged V6, while the GT500 variant could get an EcoBoost V8. That being said, Mustang6G.com claims the sixth-generation Pony Car will come with aluminum front fenders, 15-inch rotors on the GT and the much-discussed 200 lb. reduction in weight.

Regardless of where this news leads, we’ll have all the details of the 2015 Mustang once 12:01 a.m. rolls around on Thursday morning.
