Ford says its upcoming, next-generation Edge will be built at its Oakville, Ont., plant.
The announcement follows a $700 billion investment earlier this year to upgrade the facility, which is located about 40 kilometres south of Toronto. The upgrade also meant the preservation of 2,800 jobs.
In a statement, Ford Canada president and CEO Dianne Craig calls the move to build the next-generation Edge “proof that Canadian manufacturers can compete, and win, globally.”
“We’re ready to showcase Oakville Assembly’s commitment to craftsmanship and advanced manufacturing to deliver what our global customers want and value — a high-quality vehicle with class-leading design, fuel-efficiency and performance,” she said.
Following its debut last year at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the upcoming Edge is still a concept, but it will be exported to 60 countries across the globe once it hits production. In addition to the current and next-generation Edge, the Ford Flex, Lincoln MKX and Lincoln MKT are built in Oakville.
