Pushing the performance envelope even further than its IPL division, Infiniti will debut a Formula One-inspired variant of the Q50 sedan at the upcoming North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Dubbed the Eau Rouge, this particular Q50 is named after a corner at the Formula One track in Spa-Francorchamps. Although we don’t know the nitty-gritty details just yet, Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti’s design director, says the Q50 Eau Rouge “expresses a deepened interpretation” the brand’s performance DNA.
Based on the teaser, it certainly looks fast. The front end is tweaked with a carbon fibre front lip and a reworked bumper, while the mirror caps are finished in carbon fibre. All in all, it looks the part, but we’re hoping Eau Rouge is more than just a series of cosmetic upgrades.
Currently, the lone IPL model in Infinit’s family is the Q60 (previously known as the G37 Coupe). Powered by the same 3.7-litre V6 as the Q50, it pumps out 343 horsepower and comes with various other performace bits and pieces, including an upgraded suspension and lightweight wheels.
