The latest Nissan Rogue has scored top honours from the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) following its latest rounds of crash tests.
Following the previous model’s middle-of-the-pack crash test results, the 2014 Rogue aced its tests across the board with top marks. In the small-overlap test, for instance, the IIHS found minimal cabin intrusions and the dummy’s space was maintained well throughout the impact, leading to a ‘Good’ rating. The Rogue also scored a ‘Good’ rating in the IIHS’ additional tests.
To qualify for a Top Safety Pick rating, a vehicle must earn a rating of ‘Good’ across the board in tests such as the moderate front overlap, side impact, roof strength and head restraint evaluations. In addition, an ‘Acceptable’ rating or higher is required in the small-overlap test. Moving up to the Top Safety Pick+ award requires some sort of forward-collision warning system, even if it’s an optional feature.
Forward-collision warning, along with a suite of other active safety features, are optional on the Rogue.
