Drag racing has always captured the imagination of car enthusiasts. Perhaps its the astronomical sounds these race cars make, or the way they twist and bend as they rip down the tarmac at neck-jerking speed. Either way, the Winternationals has hosted some of the greats.
Since 1960, the first official race of each NHRA season has be held at Southern California’s Fairplex at Pomona. This historic event has seen the first winged dragster of ‘Big Daddy’ Don Garlits’ in 1963 to his revolutionary rear-engine Top Fueler in 1971. As it is the first major race of each year, the Winternationals has been witness to the launching of new ideas and the eternal hopes of a championship season.
