BMW has officially announced an all-new model expected to join its SUV lineup, the X7.
Pegged as BMW’s flagship SUV, the X7 will compete with the full-size Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. To accommodate the added production volume, BMW has also confirmed it will invest $1-billion into its Spartanburg, South Carolina plant.
Currently, the plant is capable of putting out approximately 300,000 vehicles per year, but BMW hopes to boost production to 450,000 units by the end of 2016 with the new investment. In addition, 800 jobs will be created.
The BMW X3, X5, and X6 SUVs — as well as the all-new X4 — are manufactured at the South Carolina plant.
