It’s no secret McLaren is working on a Porsche 911 fighter as part of its new model strategy, set to hit dealers in 2015. Thanks to Autocar UK, we’ve now learned our first few details of the upcming P13.
First and foremost, the P13 will be powered by the MP4-12C’s twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8, but detuned to about 444 horsepower. Styling is said to be heavily influenced by the P1 hypercar and the P13 will sport McLaren’s trademark carbon fibre monocoque chassis.
Speaking with Autocar, McLaren’s European sales chief David Brimson says the P13 will be “a true high-performance sports car with the same DNA as the 12C and the P1″ but at a price tag at least 30 per cent lower than the 12C. That puts it in the $200,000 price bracket, aligned with the likes of the Porsche 911 Turbo.
When it hits the market, the P13 will be sold as a coupe, with a retractable hardtop Spider variant following a year later.
