Porsche Macan to get base V6 diesel when it arrives in North America

When Porsche‘s all-new Macan compact SUV arrives in North America as a 2015 model, it will be offered with a base V6 turbo diesel, and not the four-cylinder gas/diesel engines that will be offered in other parts of the world, Left Lane News reports.

This is the same 3.0L engine that parent Volkswagen uses in the Macan’s bigger brother, the Cayenne, as well as in the Audi Q5 and the Volkswagen Touareg. The 3.0L V6 turbodiesel is expected to output about 280 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque and focus on fuel economy.

The SUV, which was unveiled to much fanfare at the L.A. Auto Show, is forecast to be one of the German automaker’s hottest-selling models, as it will also be one of its most affordable. The Macan will start at $54,300 for the S and $82,200 for the Turbo model.
