Ford has surpassed Toyota as the most environmentally-friendly automaker in this year’s 50 Best Global Green Brands survey.
The survey, commissioned by Interbrand and analyzed by Deloitte, praised Ford for its efforts in emphasizing its environmental responsibility through sustainable manufacturing, and maximizing its waste-reduction and green building efforts. Toyota ranked second, being recognized for battery recycling efforts for end-of-life hybrid powertrains, as well as reducing water consumption per vehicle and the development of its hydrogen fuel-cell powered FCV, due to hit the market as early as April 2015. Two other automakers — Honda and Nissan — round out the third and fourth spots, respectively.
To determine the 50 Best Global Green Brands annually, Interbrand takes the 100 brands from its yearly Best Global Brands report and then conducts research to capture the perception each brand from the public in terms of their green and environmentally-sustainable practices. That data is then compared with environmental and sustainability performance data collected by Deloitte.
