Dodge unveils new Viper ACR, the fastest Viper ever

As if the world needed an even crazier Viper, Dodge will be unleashing the Viper ACR, a street-legal racing machine aimed squarely at the Corvette Z06.

The new track-focused Viper ACR (American Club Racer) will still be powered by the iconic 8.4-litre naturally aspirated V10 that puts out 645 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque (it’s one of the most beloved naturally aspirated engines of all time). But the car goes through some extreme weight-saving exercises and gets a host of serious equipment and performance upgrades such as new carbon ceramic brakes and a massive carbon fibre rear wing that generates one ton of downforce. Power hits the road via a six-speed manual transmission.

The hand-built, rear-wheel-drive ACR also gets a new carbon fibre diffuser, an SRT hood, Brembo brake calipers, 10-setting coil-over Bilstein racing shocks, new high-performance tires and more. Dodge says the Viper ACR has a 50/50 weight distribution.

“The Viper has always been more of a street-legal race car than a track-capable streetcar, and the new 2016 Dodge Viper ACR is the fastest street-legal Viper track car ever,” said Tim Kuniskis, president and chief executive of the Dodge SRT Brand in North America, in a press release. “Our goal is to arm our enthusiasts with the ultimate Viper track car to dominate road courses around the world.”

Production of the Dodge Viper ACR begins in Detroit, Mich., in the fall/late summer of 2015. Pricing has not yet been announced.
