In a clever awareness campaign against drinking and driving, Ford Europe has suited up a driver with various items that simulate how being drunk can impair driving.
The suit, which is made up of goggles with blinders to limit vision, headphones to impair hearing, and various weights to slow co-ordination and reaction times, was put on a totally sober driver. Wearing the suit, the driver was then instructed to navigate a Ford Fiesta through various obstacles simulating real driving tasks on a closed course.
The results of the drunk driving simulation were surprising to her and we think she learned an important life lesson. The drunk suit made it difficult for the driver to do simple tasks like catch a ball or even walk in a straight line, so the way it impacted her driving was even more profound. Ford is taking its awareness campaign all over Europe and encouraging young people to participate.
